Creating Student Accounts

There are three ways to create student accounts:

  1. Manually create student accounts

  2. Enter a student list (Excel or .csv)

  3. Connect with Basispoort (only Dutch primary schools).

For Dutch Secondary schools, we usually use the Edu/ECK route, see this explanation. While testing our products, you can choose from options 1 and 2.
For International Transition Classes (ISK), we recommend options 1 and 2, and for Vocational Education (MBO), we will discuss which option is best for you.

1. Manually create student accounts

Create a class

When you manually create student accounts, start by creating a class.

  1. In the program, go to Classes
  2. Choose on the right side of the screen > Add new class and fill in all the required information.

Create student accounts

After creating the class, you can create students via Students and choose Add a new student account. The required fields are:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Class (select the correct class from the list)
  • Email address (must be unique)
  • Password (at least 8 characters)*

*For primary school students, preferably choose easily remembered passwords.

2. Enter a student list

If you use a school administration system, the IT specialist or administrative staff can easily export a .csv or Excel list to be imported into Holmwoods. You can also create an Excel list yourself. The required fields are:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Class
  • Email address (must be unique)

A sample list can be found here. To import the list, go to Students > Add students and choose Import a student list. You will first see a page explaining how to import the list. Then, you will be guided step by step to import the list.
Don’t forget to download the import list after importing.

Passwords

When importing a list, the password is not required. If you provide passwords, we will use them. If you leave the Password column empty, our system will generate passwords. If you use dummy addresses, provide easy-to-remember passwords.

After importing the students, link the classes to the correct subscription.

For transitioning to a new school year, we recommend reading the help topic: Actions for the new school year.

3. Connect with Basispoort (and possibly ParnasSys)

We offer connections with Basispoort (and possibly ParnasSys). The connection with Basispoort ensures that student accounts and teacher accounts are automatically created and updated in Holmwood’s. Of course, students can then log into Holmwood’s via Basispoort or connected services without a password. If you want to use the Basispoort connection, read this help topic.

After the initial synchronization of the accounts, link the classes to the correct subscription.

The connection with ParnasSys ensures that students’ test results are recorded in ParnasSys.
